Recent student successes include acceptance on to the Opera Scholars Program, XL Arts, Score of 50 in VCE Music Investigation (Voice), A grades in VCE Classical  Voice, many Distinctions in AMEB exams (Musical Theatre, Singing and Singing for Leisure), entry to Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, leading roles in school musicals,  entry to study B Mus in Voice at Melbourne, Monash and Queensland Universities.

Lessons are fun, inspiring and supportive.  We look at  understanding how the whole body plays a major role in singing efficiently and easily, so that you are free to express yourself musically and dramatically when performing. We learn how to breath deep in the body, with a balanced posture, and identify how it feels to sing  with energy but no unnecessary tension  in your body, so that your throat never feels strained and your vocal range and stamina can reach their full potential. I also help you deal with performance nerves and to choose suitable repertoire for auditions.

Singing Lessons

Singing for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

I also run weekly  music classes for children aged 6 months - 5 years and their carers,  using many different styles of vocal music, musical and acting games and movement to introduce young children to the fun of singing and exploring basic musical concepts.  Please contact me for further details of times and venue.

Piano Lessons

Piano lessons are also available for children age 5 upwards,  beginners of all ages through to intermediate level, either for your own pleasure or exam preparation (AMEB Piano and Piano for leisure). Music theory is incorporated into lessons in a fun way. Students learn both contemporary and classical repertoire and can perform in a concert at the end of the year.

Parents are welcome to sit in during their children’s lessons. I am a qualified teacher (Postgraduate Diploma in Education), am a VIT member, hold a current Working with Children Check and also have a certificate in the First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis.

Each singing lesson contains a mixture of vocal exercises, warm ups and then looking  at repertoire. I love working with students of all abilities, including those who don’t read music (if needed we look at the basics of musical notation and theory to aid practice and performance). Accompaniments for songs will be recorded for you to take home to practise along to. I have completed Estill Levels 1 & 2 and  have had extensive training in Accent Method with Dinah Harris, both of which methods I incorporate in my teaching to ensure you have a clear physiological understanding of how your voice works.  I have also studied Alexander Technique and Pilates and use many elements of these methods in my teaching to help students achieve a healthy vocal production and ease of movement whilst singing and acting (essential for stage work!).

I have a wide knowledge of classical art songs, operatic repertoire,  Music Theatre, contemporary, jazz, and choral repertoire, and am able to coach in French, German and Italian. I  am a good pianist and am able to accompany lessons and exams. Coaching is also available in  Aural and Music Theory, either as part of a  singing or piano lesson or as separate lessons if preferred.

All lessons are in a fully air-conditioned/heated studio.

Anyone, no matter what age or ability, can learn how to sing better! Singing is one of the most natural ways we have to express ourselves, and learning how to sing with physical and emotional freedom is one of the most joyful experiences we can have. The emphasis in my studio is on fun and exploration.
